It was our pleasure to host around 60 visitors this month for our ‘Climate Emergency: Making Fashion Circular’ event.
UK consumers purchase more clothing per person than any other country in Europe – in excess of 1 million tonnes every year. Around 300,000 tonnes will go to landfill or is burnt, and less than 1% of fibres used to make garments will be recycled into new clothing. The value of unused clothing in wardrobes has been estimated at around £30 billion. Some truly startling facts for delegates to consider.
In conjunction with CeeD (Centre for Engineering, Education and Development), ACS presented our forward vision for the fashion industry. Attendees were treated to our state-of-the-art distribution centre tour and they enjoyed sessions with speakers from ACS Clothing, Hirestreet Limited, Scottish Enterprise, Energy Saving Trust, Resource Efficient Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage, Novamont, Zero Waste Scotland and Plan Bee Ltd – Biodiversity Champions.
This was a unique opportunity to learn about how a clothing rental model can reduce the environmental impact of the fashion sector. We had a terrific turnout on the day, and the crowd left feeling engaged and positive.
